Dr. Hussein Omar

Consultant Psychiatrist, Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK.

Qualifications

Professional experience and scientific positions

I am a UK-trained Consultant Psychiatrist with over 25 years of experience in adult mental health. My work is built on a simple belief: effective psychiatric care goes beyond diagnosing illness and prescribing medication—it requires understanding the person, their story, their relationships, and the neurobiology that shapes their emotional life.
I hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Adult Psychiatry from the General Medical Council (UK), a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (FRCPsych) and a Clinical Certificate in Psychopharmacology from the British Psychopharmacology Association (BPA). My academic training includes an MSc in Psychiatric Research from King’s College London, a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education from the University of Westminster, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Health Research from the University of Leeds.

In 2013, I completed formal specialist training in Adult ADHD at Barnet Hospital, North London, making me one of the early cohort of UK psychiatrists to receive dedicated subspecialty training in Adult ADHD. Over the past 13 years, I have developed extensive expertise in the assessment and treatment of adults with ADHD, particularly where ADHD coexists with anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, or complex emotional difficulties.
Alongside my expertise in psychopharmacology, I have practiced psychotherapy for more than 15 years. My clinical approach integrates neuroscience, attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, and evidence-based psychological therapies with modern psychiatric practice. I am particularly interested in helping people understand not only what they are experiencing, but why they experience it, and how meaningful, lasting change can occur.

Beyond clinical practice, I am passionate about medical education and the future of integrative psychiatry. I am currently developing educational programmes that combine interpersonal neurobiology, psychotherapy, and neuroscience to help clinicians move beyond diagnosis toward a more comprehensive understanding of the human mind.
My professional mission is to bridge psychiatry, psychotherapy, and neuroscience, providing compassionate, evidence-based, and deeply personalised care while contributing to the education of the next generation of mental health professionals.
